The Northerners in Oslo
Day One. Warm-up A rather manic day. Facebook status reads: finally made it to little B and B in Oslo after 4;30 am start. Lovely Sharon Garner and Abi Garner took me at 4:45 am to York. Train was on the board … Continue reading

Vagrant woodpeckers
Couldn’t resist a quick post on this, having seen Scotland’s first Lesser Spotted Woodpecker yesterday. Found in Scalloway (Shetland’s ‘second city’) by Rob Fray yesterday afternoon, it showed exceptionally well near the health centre yesterday evening – pics below thanks … Continue reading

It was photographed at Vestre Jakobselv on 26th May this year. Home of OWL Heaven (to me at least). Same place we saw Tengmalm’s … Continue reading

Lesser Spotted Woodpecker
Discovery anywhere… An extended family weekend break. Early April, mid Derbyshire. My expectation of seeing much of an avian nature was (I thought) realistically low, nestled as we were, in a house on the sides of an attractive valley at Ambergate. I was wrong. A … Continue reading
