It’s great to be part of the Birding Frontiers team and hopefully bring a slightly new dimension to some of the posts. As one of the Punkbirders, I’m obsessed with finding rarities, but am also a naturalist and all-round ecologists. Since leaving the hallowed UEA, Norwich, a decade ago I have been working as a freelance Consultant Ecologist. Leading tours for Sunbird has also featured heavily, and I will be putting on new tours in the future. Being based in Glasgow, the majority of my work is centred on Scotland although it also covers the whole of the UK and into Europe. Whilst watching Golden Eagles day-in day-out might sound appealing, it inevitably starts to be taken for granted, so the chance to pack my bags and head off somewhere foreign is never missed! Having travelled to 50 countries from the Antarctic to Madagascar, and Japan to Ecuador, I’m always amazed how frequently the ‘bird’ of the trip is actually a mammal. My posts here will focus on mammals both in the UK and the Western Palaearctic.
