A Welcome

Welcome!

I invite you to join me in sharing my passion for birds and wildlife. In a spirit of always discovering!

Black-bellied Storm Petrel by Ian Lewington. You can probably work out where the names ‘petrel’ comes from. Many feed  above ocean waves in such a way that they give the appearance of walking on the water.

My name is Martin Garner. I have been married to Sharon for 20 years and we have 2 teenage daughters, Emily and Abigail. I’ve been watching wildlife avidly since about 11 years old (a long time ago!). I have always been interested in thinking outside the box. I am currently a member of the British Birds Rarities Committee, an identification consultant for Birding World magazine and formerly identification consultant for BWPi. I am also director of the Free Spirit Trust, a Charity involved in bringing transformation to tough situations in Sheffield and Rwanda as well as coaching leaders in mission and in the business community. I have published many papers on bird identification and my first full book ‘Frontiers in Birding’  recently sold out. I love wild places and new discoveries, whether on a far flung island or in my own garden.

Maybe we will even get to meet on a Discovery Day, Guided Bird Tour or at an Evening Talk. Hope you like the blog!
