Cape Clear Collared Flycatcher

or is it?

I don’t know! Spoke to Steve Wing, Warden at Cape Clear Bird Observatory, Co. Cork- several times over last few days. They have had an intriguing ficedula flycatcher. They have done the right thing. Stuck with it and gathered as much data as possible. Tail pattern, measurements (aged/sexed as first winter female), primary patch -clearly extending beyond primary coverts  on closed wing and rump feathers (which have the white ‘anchor shape’ at base of rump feathers), are all  ‘Collared characters‘. Is it a Collared? I don’t know but with this bird and the Spurn bird from end August- maybe we are bit closer to finding out! Certainly some learning going on.
